English: Constructing an ellipse (with a=2,b=1) using the parallelogram method. Two horizontal lines are divided into 10 equal parts each, two vertical lines are divided into 20 equal parts each. Foci are in light blue. The method is described in problem 16 on page 63 of the following book: A.V.Pogorelov. Geometria. Moskva:Nauka, 1983. See also here.The method has been used in engineering since the beginning of the 20th century or earlier.
