Summary
DescriptionDownwind polar diagram to determine velocity made good at various wind speeds.jpg
English: Downwind polar diagram to determine velocity made good at various wind speeds for a hypothetical displacement sailboat and sail plan. The blue and red dots denote the optimum downwind velocity made good (VMG) for each wind speed. For example, for a windspeed of 10 kts, optimum VMG is almost 6 kts on a course of 150°, whereas for a windspeed of 20 kts, optimum VMG is almost 8 kts on a course of 174°. Exemples d'optimum VMG :
vent de 10 nœuds : 150°, 6 nœuds;
